Career
Chemist Environment and Climate Change Canada Feb 2023 to Jun 2023
Conducted data analyses on air sampling data of toxic pollutants (dioxins and furans)
Presented the findings to supervisor and fellow project members
Researched and analyzed previous scientific literature to understand historical trends and significance of current data.
Assisted fellow lab researchers with chemical lab duties that required strong attention to detail, as well as organizational skills by assisting with daily lab upkeep, and the maintenance of safety standards and chemical inventories.
Research Support Student Environment and Climate Change Canada May 2022 to Sept 2022
Used Accelerated Solvent Extraction to extract air samples collected via the Global AtmosphericPassive Sampling (GAPS) network.
Developed experience in various chemical lab techniques, requiring a strong attention to detail to avoid contamination risks, teamwork while working with fellow lab researchers, the ability to learn new techniques quickly, and organization to ensure thorough documentation of experiments was maintained.
A secondary project I helped with to study a new particle counter device and present my findings to the research group required innovative thinking, research skills, and effective presentation and communication skills.
Teaching Assistant University of Toronto Sept 2021 to Apr 2022
Administered chemistry laboratory sessions for 30-40 undergraduate students. Demonstrated leadership and management while teaching and implementing lab techniques, and maintaining strict COVID safety protocols within the lab setting.
Additional responsibilities included organization and time management while grading students’ assignments and aiding them with their questions about key concepts of chemistry, while ensuring the cultivation of an inclusive learning environment.
Research Assistant Purdue University Aug 2018 to Aug 2019
Utilized Ion Mobility–Mass Spectrometry (IM-MS) for the identification of lipids and fatty acids, in order to conduct a chemical analysis of biological systems at a subcellular level.
Presented a poster of the research at a summer poster presentation conference. (July 2019)
Prepared, tested, and analyzed a wide range of biological samples.
